The Story

Light breaking through a torn veil.

Inspired by John 1:4–5, Darkness Cannot Overcome explores the powerful contrast between darkness and light. A stark white background is interrupted by a sculptural, black cloth that appears to tear away from the surface of the canvas. At its center, a dramatic opening reveals the brilliant white beneath, creating the illusion of light breaking through the darkness.

The dimensional cloth gives the work a sense of movement and tension — as though darkness itself is being pulled apart to reveal what has always been present beneath it. The contrast between the textured black surface and the luminous white opening becomes a visual expression of hope, truth, and the enduring power of Christ’s light.

The work invites the viewer to consider a simple yet profound truth: darkness may surround the light, but it cannot overcome it.
